EREWASH MIXED 7s FESTIVAL
Yardley turned out to play in the Erewash Mixed 7s Festival with friends from City of Birmingham Hockey Club. A day of hockey, in the sun with a BBQ and lots to enjoy.
Named the "Wild Bunch" many of the team donned fancy dress outfits matching the theme of the wild west, with our hockey dog Jackson also wearing and sharing some fancy dress which later helped us win a prize of free beer for best fancy dress (thanks Jackson!).
Our campaign got off to a great start with Tricia scoring the opening goal, followed up by Jeevan to round off a 2-0 win. Lily and Grace had a fantastic game with some good exchanges of play down the wing. Leanne our goalkeeper had a great game coming out to make 3 clinical saves to keep a clean sheet.
In our second game, Zach went on a nice run from the defence and set up Jeevan for the lead with Eshana putting the Wild Bunch back in front in the closing stages after a great solo and combination play with Jeevan.
Our third game was lost 3-1 despite some fabulous tackles from our defence of Paul and Alex. Jeevan took a chance from some sloppy defence by the opposition to score a consolation with Noah seeing a Tomahawk go narrowly wide!
Our final game came up against a very young Beeston side with Alex showing his skill to bring scores back to 2-1 and Jeevan rounding off with another to get arguably one of our best results, a draw versus one of the favourites to win!
We then played a further 3 games which saw us get into the Semi-finals. Mat scoring an equaliser to take it to flicks which we unfortunately lost. A 4th place finish was a fantastic achievement considering we've never played together as a squad before.
A huge thanks to the team of Jeevan, Eshana, Alex, Leanne, Lily, Paul, Noah, Grace, Zach, Tricia and Mat for a fantastic day. Thanks also to our supporters, Terri, Jas, Gemma, Jackson (our hockey dog mascot!) and Simon for turning out for the day through the rain (heavy rain) and sun!
