PICKWICK CUP FINAL TROPHY GAME
Posted by Peter Brainch on 5 June 2017
Yardley HC were kindly invited to join Kings Heath Pickwick for their “cup final day” Pickwick Trophy.
We were invited as Yardley had close links to Pickwick in the 1960’s and Yardley once participated in this F.A. Cup final day club day. Nowadays its a mixture of men's teams and ladies teams and Badgers making up two teams for a friendly game of hockey,
6 Yardley club members were available and they travelled to the Kings Heath venue on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Once we introduced ourselves, we were equally split up into blue shirts and whites shirts. It was basically how our club day use to be before our 6 a side tournaments. The twelve a side game ended 5:2 to the white shirts but it was such a friendly laid back game, the finally result was immaterial. A Trophy was presented to the winning Capt then off to the Kings heath Club house to watch the F.A.Cup final with chip butties. We have been invited back next year. It always falls on F.A Cup final day and i hope more can attend next time.
