End of season Club Day
A modest turn-out arrived in the spring sunshine to enjoy an afternoon of hockey.
The afternoon’s proceedings began with the Chairman presenting the Annual awards to those who were unable to attend the club Dinner. Those receiving awards were Mat Bartlett (Clubman of the Year), Kyle Letts (Young Player of the Year), also Thomas Denny for a new award, for Most Improved Player (the trophy for which was kindly donated be the dealer from whom the club gets its trophies and engraving.) Ricky Morton had received his, for Player of the Year, at the Club Dinner,
To be fair there was a good attendance from the 1st team members and about half of the Badgers squad were able to make it. One lad and his dad turned up to play for half an hour or so before going on to watch the Blues v Leeds Championship game at St Andrew’s. There’s dedication for you!!
It was decided to play a game of 9 v 9, no goalkeepers and no adults allowed to score. It was also decided to play four quarters in some sort of preparations for what might well be the format for games next season.
The pretty even game was played throughout in splendid end of season spirit with the older players allowing the youngsters plenty of possession and opportunities to score. After the second quarter there was a refreshment break and a sale of raffle tickets.
At the end of it all it was agreed that the Reds had beaten the Whites by 5-3. The raffle was duly drawn and prizes presented. By all accounts £60 was raised by the raffle – to be split 50:50 between the Club and the Hockey for Heroes Charity. Many thanks to all who supported this venture.
The Chairman thanked all the players and spectators (including many parents), Neil as umpire and finally Alex who organised the afternoon.
