Derby Mixed 7s Tournament
Yardley HC entered into the Derby Mixed 7s Hockey Tournament having already taken part in a similar style tournament in Cannock. Yardley themed as Harry Potter for the fancy dress themed day, were to play 6 pool games before a final knock out game.
Harry Potter started out against Baywatch and the game finished 4-0 to Baywatch as we began to get used to the rules and pace of the game. Our next game against Top Gun would go better, drawing 1-1 thanks to the opposition for rewarding us a goal after an umpiring error had awarded them with a goal.
With long breaks throughout the day, and little rain, spirits remained high for an enjoyable day. The next game against Trolls 2 would end 1-1 with Jeevan getting on the score sheet.
Losses to Brave Heart and Barford Tigers and a draw against Average Joe's would mean that we played Top Gun again in our knockout for 10th place. A great strike from Skippy and then Jeevan would give us a 2-0 only to conceded two late goals resulting in a shoot out. Zach Jarvis expertly scored from his first and Paul made a great save to keep us in front. Skippy took the second flick to which the keeper responded well and saved. Paul was unable to keep out a well placed second stroke in the top corner but kept our hopes alive by saving the final stroke. Mathew stepped up and made no mistake and sealed the win for us in a day that was enjoyed by all.
Thanks to Jeevan, Zach, Noah, Grace, Lily, Paul, Mathew, Skippy, Sue, Tricia and Simon for turning out to play on the day. Also thanks to the Chaggers and Jarvis' for turning our to support us on the day.
