Match Report | CoBHC Men’s 1sts 5 v 1 Pershore 1 Goal-scorers: Zach Jarvis, Noor Zaman 2, Jordan McGuigan, Jeevan Chagger Earlier in the season CoBHC edged the three points in a seven-goal thriller. It remained to be seen how this encounter would turn out, with the visitors just two places above CoB. The teams lined-up on very cold, ‘so called meteorological spring’ afternoon. Certainly, not very spring-like! CoBHC got off to a lively enough start, creating some early half chances. Pershore too were quickly into their stride and soon claimed an early goal. A firmly-hit ball found its way into the D only to be met by an alert forward running into the to meet the ball on its way into the D. It just needed a touch to divert the ball into the goal. CoB were not knocked off their stride by this early set-back and continued to positively push on at every opportunity. Noor had a couple of close efforts go just wide of the goal. Pershore too were very positive in their advances, but a solid defence held them at bay, with Sohail particularly outstanding in breaking down the visitors’ advances. After about 20mins, CoB earned a short corner. A shot on goal was partially cleared to the right of the D, to be met by Zach whose reverse hit beat everyone to claim a deserved equaliser for the home team. Both teams had periods of good possession. Junaid was working hard for the team, defensively and pushing on forward. Two quick goals just before half-time helped CoB into a strong position. The second goal came about a little fortuitously. A bit if a scramble in the visitors’ D lead to Noor pouncing on a free ball to get his shot on goal. Several of the defenders wondered if he had been outside the D, but the umpire was on hand to award the goal. A third goal followed shortly as Jordan finished off another good team move. Good teamwork and positive play gave the team a deserved lead at the break. The second half saw both teams pressing forward at every opportunity. The home defence remained solid throughout. Neal was called into action a few times but he has had busier afternoons! CoB continued to create good chances – with Kyle, Sean, Jeevan all going close to adding to the team score. Finally, two more goals came the team’s way – the fourth via a short corner. Alex’s shot on goal was partially cleared but clinically followed up by Jeevan. The final fifth goal came from Noor after yet more good team play. The final score-line was the team’s best result of the season. The whole team played well in this game – all contributing to the team effort. There are three league games remaining, two away and then a final home game against the current league leaders.
