CoB Men’s 1sts     1    v    3    Old Silhillians  2nds

Goalscorer: Zach Jarvis

Lining up on a cold but sunny winter’s afternoon, both teams will have claimed to have differing priorities. Old Sils were hoping to maintain their challenge at the top of the league and CoB were hoping to get back to winning ways to give a boost to their lowly league position.

CoB exerted some early pressure and forced a couple of early short corners. Other half chances were being created, but the visitors gradually worked their way into the game with some good periods of possession. The home defence held firm and avoided any great threat on their goal.

There followed a period of fairly even-play with attacking play from both teams and pretty-sound defence from both.

During the second period of this half, the home side gained a short corner. The ball came out and found its way to Zach Jarvis whose excellent drag flick effort found its way into the goal to claim a lead that CoB managed to cling onto until the break.

Old Sils made an eager start to the second half, but with CoB also continuing to work hard to create openings. Kyle was making some telling runs forward.

However, Old Sils gradually exerted more pressure and one attacking effort lead to a bit of a scramble in the home goalmouth from which they grabbed an equaliser.

At times, both keepers were being called upon to help out their defences, but in the final quarter of the game some of the home team were beginning to feel the effects of injuries they were carrying. A defensive error let the visitors in to edge into the lead. A late effort from the home side forced the visiting keeper into a great save. Then as home-heads began to drop, the visitors pounced on another defensive error to clinch all three points and maintain their push upwards.

CoB will rue their final efforts as they lost their grip on the game. This now leaves them needing something special from their next game, away to Olton and West Warwick 4ths. It is to be hoped that those carrying niggling injuries will be fit enough to enter the fray next week.
