CoB Men’s 2nds   2    v    0   Hampton in Arden 5ths

Goalscorers:  Edan Harper, Jeevan Chagger

The 2nds worked hard to gain their second win of the season and secure a comfortable mid-table position. Missing Stan and a few other regulars, but having gained Jeevan who had been called upon to umpire the 1sts in the previous game.

The Seconds, again fielding a team comprising a decent blend of youth and more experienced players, took a little while to really get into their stride, but did manage to create some decent half chances. One such chance led to the team’s first short corner. In the absence of the usual striker, Stan, up stepped skipper Edan who fancied his chances. The corner, pushed out by Jeevan, found Edan who controlled the ball before striking it home to give his team the lead. His celebration gestures brought a smile not only to all his team-mates but all those on the side-lines.

CoB managed to create further half chances, but no further direct threat on goal. Hampton tried to stay in the game but were reduced to the occasional forays into the final third, held by some sound defending.

At half time CoB were holding onto their slender lead.

After a somewhat cagey start to the second half the home side began to show some more positive and regular threat in the final third. A good forward attack led to some good progress into the D by Jeevan who put away a cracking shot into the goal to increase the lead. Shortly afterwards, Anthony missed a great chance to make it three, but saw him take a tumble in his attempt on goal.

The team was enjoying some good pressure, set up by some lively midfield efforts and managing to keep their opponents well under control.

Everyone played their part to gain a good win, supplying futher evidence  that the team is making good general progress. The young players deserve a special mention for  their increasing maturity and awareness of what’s involved in the game.

Next week the team is away to Old Silhillians 5ths
