Match Report | DROITWICH SPA 3rds 4 v 1 COB Men’s 2nds
Goal-scorer: Robin Stanley
CoB were able go field a full 11 players including the return of Jordan for the final game of the season as they tried to finish off by putting a halt to the recent run of disappointing results against their mid-table hosts. The game started off pretty evenly. CoB had to defend an early short corner, but then won two of their own, but Stan’s shots went wide both times. The home side were proving physically stronger which the visitors were unable to cope with. A Droitwich attack led to a cross which enabled them to take the lead. CoB were still well in the game and the game was still pretty even with both teams driving forward at every opportunity. Towards the end of the half Stan managed to slip the ball past the keeper. So, honours even at half time at 1-1 During the second half CoBHC players became tired and midfield gave the ball away cheaply and team had to defend for long periods. Stan dropped deep to support but that meant no release for under pressure back line. The team still had their moments with Stan hitting the post twice, Kamran shooting a powerful high shot at goal but drifted wide. Sean got two chances. But Droitwich got three goals from defensive errors due to high pressure for long periods. A great effort as always and definitely a closer game than the scoreline suggests but the strong physical challenges and quick closing down gave the home team the edge. Not the end to the season we might have hoped for. A few weeks rest and then its off we go again!! |
