Match Report | CoB Men’s 2nds 1 v 2 Bromsgrove 5ths Goalscorer: Robin Stanley CoB 2nds might have hoped to grab some points from a team below them in the league. However, it was not to be although it ought to have been!! Bromsgrove were the quicker out of the starting blocks and mounted some early pressure. In fact, as early as the 4th minute they took the lead. A promising attack led to a cross into the D. It was cleverly collected, juggled nearer the goal and beating the advancing Jack to send the ball into the goal. Although CoB began to settle into their stride, it was the visitors who were enjoying the better of these early exchanges. The second goal came in approx. the 10th minute when a cross from the left beat all defenders and arrived at a poacher at the far post for a simple tap-in. This chain of events seemed to press the “Go” button as CoB seemed to wake up and start pressing forward with their own attacks. Instrumental to this impetus were mainly Ben, Troy and Munib who were controlling midfield, although everyone seemed to be playing their part. Chances were being made, shots were being put in, but as yet no goals. Half time arrived and CoB were unlucky to still be two down. CoB started the second half quite brightly, carrying on here they left off at the end of the first. Now it was the home side calling the shots and the visitors trying hard to stay in the game and add to their lead. CoB finally managed to reduce the arrears when Stan went on a run into the D to unleash a powerful shot giving the keeper no chance. From then on, it was a case of both teams going for it. CoB were still largely having the better chances and were very unlucky not to at least level the scores. Several attempts on goal were very close indeed, and deserved a better ending. All thirteen players in the match-day squad were fully involved in the game. It pleasing to note that all players were seemingly playing for each other and for the team. At the end of the game, the visitors must have felt relieved to have hung on for all three points. CoB must have felt that they deserved more out of the game that their tremendous efforts warranted. Part of the secret must be – to start playing right from the go and not to let the opposition settle and get the upper hand!! Next week, the team face a trip to Shropshire to play Bridgnorth, the team just above them in the league. |
