City of Birmingham 1sts met Bromsgrove 3rds, two of three unbeaten sides in the league at the start of this game. The visitors included an ex-Yardley player. Peter Hall, as their skipper.

The game started in the decreasing daylight, with both teams sparring to create early chances In fact CoB almost scored right from the off as Jeevan surged forward into the D only to see his shot on goal go narrowly wide. Another promising move forward saw Noor just wide too wide a good effort.

Bromsgrove were temporarily down to ten men after a green card offence. Although CoB were creating some good forays forward it was the visitors who opened the scoring when old boy Peter Hall finished off after some rather scrappy play in the D that should have been cleared.

With the floodlights now on. CoB hit back with more enterprising play and Alex saw a super effort fly just over the bar. CoB had perhaps enjoyed the better exchanges during the early part of the half, but Bromsgrove were always in the game.

CoB managed to level the scores after forcing a short corner. Jeevan put the ball out to Zach who passed to Alex who made no mistake with a great shot. More good play almost reaped further dividends before the half came to a close with honours even.

For most of the second half there were periods when both teams enjoyed good possession. Scott saw a great chance just wide. Other good chances were cleared before another good attack saw Jeevan put CoB into a deserved lead. A great run down the right wing by Kyle almost led to CoB adding to their total.

Bromsgrove were by no means out of it even if CoB were creating the better of the chances. There was a brief hold up when it was ‘decided’ that the white ball was becoming difficult to see. This led to some discussion as to whether an orange ball would be better before play continued with a pink one!!

Although the visitors put in a late effort to get back on level term, the CoB showed that they are made of sterner stuff these days and showed why they remained unbeaten at the end, with every player having had a positive impact at some stage of the game.

A good win at the end of tightly fought encounter as CoB remain in second place on goal difference.

Next week should be another home game against Bridgnorth, but it remains to be seen whether the game will be played with the impending new ‘lockdown’ situation.
