Match Report | CITY OF BIRMINGHAM HC 1sts 3 v 2 WORCESTER 5ths COBHC GOALSCORERS: Kyle Letts, Noor Zaman x2
With this being the 1sts Home game of the season, both teams respectfully observed a minute’s silence in memory of the Club’s previous Chairman and Honorary President, Chris Wadhams, who sadly passed away at the start of the ‘lockdown’. After a rather cagey start when both teams attempted to settle into their game plan, it was CoBHC who finally got into their stride with some very promising and impressively attractive attacking play, with Kyle prominent along the right flank. In spite of this early promise it was not until mid-way through the half that CoBHC finally edged in front. Good work by Scott continued by Jeevan finally presented Noor with a simple tap in. Worcester finally got into the game and equalised when after a poor clearance from defence let it the visitors to plant a firm shot into the net. There followed a period of some scrappy play by both sides with the half finishing all square at 1-1. The second half got under way with both teams pretty well evenly matched, but, as in the first half, CoBHC began to create more chances. Eventually after another good attacking move the ball seemed to bobble around the D with Worcester unable to get it clear away. The ball came out to Kyle on the right of the D. He impressively got the ball under control and fired home a good shot on goal. Worcester forced their way back immediately and after some somewhat uncharacteristic scrappy defending a forward was on hand at the far post to tap the ball in to level the scores again. With the game still evenly balanced, CoBHC attempted to step up a gear in search of a winner. Scott was again instrumental in several surges forward, again producing some near misses. A series of several short corners went close. From one, Alex was very unlucky as his strike just skimmed the wrong side of the post. With the game running down, another fine attack involving at least Kyle and Jeevan leading to uncertainty in the visitors’ defence and Noor was on hand to finish the move to claim his second of the game. CoBHC then went through a somewhat nervy ending as Worcester looked for a third equaliser. The game ended with a relieved CoBHC side pleased to have held out for all three points to remain unbeaten after their first three games. Next week, the team is away to Redditch 3rds
