Match Report | City of Birmingham Men's 2ndXI 1-5 Atherstone Adders 4ths
Goal scorer: Kamran Umar.
The 2ndXI played their first home game of the season at our new venue, the Doug Ellis Stadium. Before the start of the game, both teams gathered, socially distanced for a minute’s silence in respect of our late honorary president Chris Wadhams who sadly passed away during lockdown.
The game got off to a bright start with both teams having good early exchanges. The defence of Edan, Mohammed, Stan and Paul kept Atherstone at bay and used chances to push on attacks. Parameth, Zak, Jahed and Kamran played some lovely hockey to set up Jeevan and Anthony who caused havoc in the opposition circle with chances being saved or hitting the post and going wide.
However, it was the visitors who took a lead into half time with some quick passing and beating the keeper from tight angles.
During the Second half the team undertook a bit of a shake-up. Stan pushed into more of a midfield role and Mohammed commanded his defence. City of Birmingham were gifted an excellent opportunity when after an exchange between Parameth, Sean and Anthony Kamran slotted home his first goal for the club.
As a team we continued on and the defence did their best to keep the opposition at bay but a small deflection and a short corner goal put the game beyond doubt. Despite this, the hunger from our youngsters was evident, forcing attacks and chances right until the final whistle.
Next week the 2nds travel to Northampton.
