Yardley Badgers 0 v 2 Khalsa Leamington Spa Badgers

Yardley played a very committed team who wanted to win convincingly. Yardley had other ideas about that and fielded two First team players to shore up the back line. This tactic isn’t the norm for Yardley, but we just had a feeling the opposition may try something after our two other meetings.

Badgers hockey should all be about the youngsters in the squad and I was determined that they would and should get time on the ball. My tactic worked perfectly and the Yardley Badgers played a great game of hockey. All our youth players got time on the ball, everyone was able to shine. Putting in great tackles. Moving off the ball to find space. Players passing together getting good ‘one-twos’ getting past defenders. Making driving solo runs at the defence, getting past the adult.

John Ballard and myself were very proud of the Badgers’ play today and also their individual development over the season. Our team came off the pitch smiling, sure the visitors got a 2-0 win, mainly from small defensive errors, but every Yardley player had a good game. Every player worked hard together as a team and they all new it too. I had fun watching and I’m sure the players on the pitch did to. I could name each player and their contribution but Zach (head coach) told them all at the end of the game, so they know how good they did, Individually and as a group. Well Done.
