Match Report | YARDLEY 0 DROITWICH SPA 1sts 1
On a very blustery afternoon Yardley faced promotion contenders, Droitwich. Admittedly, Yardley needed to pull off an unlikely result to ease their relegation fears. In the end Yardley did give a very good account of themselves, but lost out to an opportunist’s goal, somewhat against the run of play at the time. Both teams began at a fairly brisk tempo, but it was the home side that created the better of the early chances. One such chance was put just wide by Jeevan. Having held the upper hand for a while Yardley gradually allowed Droitwich to gain more of a foothold in the game and eventually, somewhat against the run of play at the time, a scramble in the D was met with a somewhat opportune reverse hit into the goal, giving Neal no chance. Yardley did not let this upset their rhythm and continued to press forward at every opportunity. Alex went very close with a great effort. At the break. Yardley could feel themselves a little unlucky to be behind. At the same time Droitwich created chances that could have added to their lead. The second half saw both teams pretty well evenly matched, both on the offensive whenever possible. Both defences remained pretty resolute and kept out whatever was thrown at them. At one stage Yardley forced a series of short corners, but shots on goal were either well saved by the keeper or well cleared by the defence. The influential Alex, again burst through late on with another great chance. In the end, Droitwich will be pleased enough to bag another three points, whist realising that Yardley had given them a good run for their money. It does not get any easier for Yardley as their next game is away against another team on the promotion hunt, West Bromwich 2nds |
