Match Report | Edgbaston 1 v 0 Yardley Badgers The Yardley Badger’s had several players unavailable this week for many different reasons, but credit to the squad - 13 players turned up to play at Edgbaston. The whole game was very evenly split with both teams getting chances in the “D” throughout the whole 70 minutes of play. After last weeks’ poor passing performance, the team produced a good display of team work and togetherness. The whole group worked really hard- on the ball and off it, looking for time and space. We had another new player join us on our journey this week. Aryan came along with his friend Cem (also a new arrival last week for our Badger team) and both played some intelligent fast thinking hockey up front as Yardley’s strike partnership. Both players got chances in the “D” and worked well with the midfield. As the game was so even the adult team Captain remained on the side and just coached the team and organised the rotating substitutions. The Yardley midfield had a great game and commanded the middle of the pitch for long periods. Aeysha was playing the central position and bossed the middle throughout the game ably supported by Thomas and Zak. The trio worked tirelessly winning possession and linking up with the wide players and forwards. The Yardley defence was again solid and protected the keeper Anthony for 67 minutes of the game. With ten minutes to go the substitutions got a little misaligned and the Yardley Badgers were put under a long spell a pressure. Unfortunately the Captain saw this pressure building up but couldn’t rearrange the player’s positions to quell the home team’s advances. So with a matter of minutes left, a home team player struck a powerful shot low beating the Yardley keeper. With only moments to go Yardley tried hard to get an equaliser in the final seconds but unfortunately the shot went wide. This was a very even game and the victory could have gone either way. Next week we play Solihull Blossomfield at home.
