Match Report | Yardley Club Side 0 Lichfield 6ths 5 Although not strictly a Badgers side it was a club side with five Badgers and five younger 1st teamers and so as there is no 2nd team, the result will be recorded under Badgers friendlies.
The game began with a somewhat shaky start from the home side whilst players settled to their positions. Lichfield produced the better of the early exchanges but without really troubling Anthony in goal. Noor was doing his best to prompt in midfield and Kyle was showing some pace along the right wing. Noah and Mathew were holding the defence. Lichfield’s first real chance was put wide after Anthony had come out well to put pressure on the advancing forward. Yardley began to settle into their game and Noor had a shot saved. Eventually the young Lichfield players linked well and a cross from the right set up a simple tap-in for the lead. A chance for a second soon followed but was well saved by Anthony. He also pulled off a remarkable diving save to further prevent more damage. However, the continued pressure from the visitors lead to a scrambled effort added to the lead before half time. Yardley were shocked when a goal early in the second half seemed to give Lichfield a winning lead. Yardley seemed to have difficulty in keeping possession and therefore found it hard to get back into the game. Anthony continued to be in the thick of the action time and time again and his efforts were keeping the score to a respectable level. Two late goals made for an unhappy afternoon for this patched up team. Its hard to keep your heads up when being out-played, but Yardley’s youngsters will surely enjoy more comfortable afternoons when the Conference proper starts in a couple of weeks. |
