OLD SILS    2      YARDLEY   1

Goalscorer: Zak Hussain

The first ten minutes of the game was very evenly poised. Both teams were playing with a sole adult ( playing and staying deep ). The game flowed well, with each team getting into good areas and putting shots away and testing the keepers.

The Yardley defence pushed high and in the midfield Yardley started to get the upper hand, resulting in even more chances in the D.

The home team’s adult then got more involved in the middle of the pitch to even up the play. After some twenty minutes, Yardley added a second adult into the play but this resulted in a deeper defensive line and the home team mounted long spells of attacks in dangerous areas. Yardley’s  left and right backs then tried to make long runs to counter these attacks which meant the strong defence was compromised. The home team seized on this opportunity and scored two goals before half time.

Yardley started the second half as well as they did in the first and soon began to get the upper hand.  The team was not dispirited by the score-line and pushed hard to get back into the game. This pressure soon resulted in a deserved goal. Zak scored the goal and to be honest every striker got some sort of shot away at the Old Sils’ keeper in this half. Soon the home team’s adult snubbed out most of our attacks and turned them into his team’s attacks but our keeper and defence played well to keep them at bay. Yardley finished the game strongly and when the final whistle went felt that an equaliser would have been very likely if the game had continued for much longer.

In the end, another game in which Yardley felt that they deserved something from the game, but the performance and confidence as a team was still great and is improving with each game.
