Match Report | YARDLEY 0 BROMSGROVE 2nds 4
In the end, this proved to be a disappointing result for a Yardley side that had promised so much during the first half. Yardley made a pretty lively start to the game and enjoyed the better of the early period of play. Promotion hopefuls, Bromsgrove seemed a little slow out of the blocks but tried every which way to stay in these early exchanges. Yardley’s early promise called the Bromsgrove keeper into early action. Many chances were being made but unfortunately had no real cutting edge. At the other end, Neal was not seeing much direct action either. The remainder of the first half did not give any real signs of any imminent goals. At half time it was honours even at 0-0, but with Yardley pleased with the amount of possession they had enjoyed. The second half started off with Yardley again creating several promising moves but without any real danger of scoring. Yardley’s defence too was pretty resolute in coping with what came their way. However, they were stunned when a Bromsgrove attack was surprisingly not cleared effectively and the ensuing scramble in the D led to Bromsgrove snatching the lead. This seemed to galvanise the visitors into action and from then they seemed to step up a gear or two and exert much more pressure. A second goal came from a free hit from the left and again, not cleared and left a Bromsgrove forward with a simple enough tap in. Yardley’s heads seemed to drop and their earlier enthusiasm seemed to be somewhat lacking. Neal was called upon to make several saves as the visitors continued on the hunt for more goals. A third goal came from a short corner to make the game safe. Another short corner was well stopped and firmly put away to give Bromsgrove a comfortable victory and maintain their promotion challenge. Yardley will be very disappointed that they let the game get away from them as it did. They have a chance to regain a little something from their final home game, the re-arranged game against Old Halesonians. |
