Match Report | Solihull Blossomfield 1-2 Yardley Goal Scorers: Ricky Morton, Alex Makepeace This week Yardley 1stXI were away to Solihull Blossomfield 2nds in the SW league 1 The game started off brightly with an early exchange of passes in the Yardley midfield with some good possession for the visitors. Blossomfield found their feet early on and began to test the Yardley defence with 3 chances going wide for the hosts. Zach and Alex played in Jeevan and Noor who threatened at times but the Blossomfield defence looked strong. Jahed and Kyle were beginning to be played into the game with Mat and Ed finding them from 16s which gave the visitors joy down the wings. Jahed played in Jeevan who struck towards goal only for the keeper to save, his follow up rebound being cleared on second attempt. Yardley defended well with Neal making some excellent saves to keep the score 0-0. Later in the half, Alex was given a green card for a challenge. Ricky and Zach remained strong passing the ball wide but little to threaten the goal.
The second half was much different to the first. More open as the game went on, exciting hockey and lots of chances. Early on, Noor was also shown a green card and the visitors subsequently won a short corner. Jeevan pushed out to Ricky who played the ball back across goal to be deflected by a defender into the net. With spirits high Yardley looked to add to their tally with Jeevan driving with the ball to hit it off target. Noah, Mat and Ed worked well to keep Blossomfield at bay despite the many short corners but Blossomfield levelled with a tap in that was scrambled over the line. The final 5 minutes offered the most excitement in the game. Blossomfield were down to 10 men and the midfield trio of Zach, Ricky and Alex drove forward with the support of Mat to push Blossomfield further into their half. In the final minute, Ricky squared a ball to Ed who missed, but with Kyle backing up, his pass found Alex at the near post who sweetly lifted the ball with great 3D skill and lobbed the keeper with a reverse flick, crashing the crossbar and going into the goal with the final touch of the game.
