Yardley 1sts     1       Solihull Blossomfield    2nds     0

Yardley will be relieved to have hung on to claim a narrow win in the Open League, T3 South West 1.

Both teams started well probing for openings but only leading to half chances at best. Eventually Yardley settled into their stride, being well prompted by Alex Makepeace in midfield. Ricky Morton was settling into the team for his league debut since his transfer. Midway through the half the good work and pressure exerted by the home side eventually lead to a goal. A well taken hit from left midfield found its way unchallenged across the ‘D’ to be well met by the speedy Shawqi Naji ghosting in from the right wing to simply guide the ball into the net. Yardley were now showing good team work and a very positive outlook. However, Blossomfield were not out of the game by any means and attacked whenever possible, but at half-time, Yardley clung on to their slender but deserved lead.

Blossomfield started the second half full of purposeful intent whilst Yardley seemed to have lead in their legs and were not able to gain much in the way of possession as they had done in the first half. Blossomfield missed a golden opportunity to draw level a as a pass from the right flashed past the post out of play. Blossomfield continued to enjoy the better of the exchanges during this half, forcing the Yardley keeper, Neal Makepeace, into serious action many times to keep his side in the lead. Towards the latter stages of the game, Yardley seemed to pick up the pace again and look to be more positive. In the end, Yardley were glad to hear the final whistle, whilst Blossomfield will feel that their second half dominance should have earned them more from the game.

This week Yardley are away to Droitwich Spa  2nd X1
