Match Report | Atherstone Adders 4 v 1 Yardley Badgers Goal scorer Ayesha
It was a late 4pm push back out in the countryside of Atherstone for the Badgers this week. Starting the game so late proved problematic for both sides as the pitch soon got very slippery from a dew forming over the surface. It lead to many youngsters taking a tumble. Yardley started very well and held firm from many attacks from the home team. The visitors tried hard to hold onto possession in the middle of the park, either trying solo skills or passing it around. Unfortunately Yardley struggled to remain composed on the middle and got very few attacks in the final third. After ten minutes of even possession, the home team increased the pressure on Yardleys’ defence and got two goals in quick succession. With ten minutes of the half left the Yardley Captain pushed one defender high to support the midfield. It immediately made a difference and the constant attacks by Atherstone were drastically reduced. The home team did get a third before the half time whistle but Yardley were getting into dangerous positions and won a couple of penalty corners. The Yardley team formation remained positive and the youngsters played good passing hockey in the whole of this half. The tean got into the “D” numerous times again winning a hand full of penalty corners. It was from one of these penalty corners that Ayesha scored a well taken strike. The home team did get a fourth goal towards the end of the game and Yardley should take great heart drawing 1-1 in the second half. The defence for Yardley again had a lot to do in this game but with the support of the midfielders helping (the defence) it is encouraging in future tough games.
