Match Report

Yardley Badgers 0 v 0 Bournville Badgers

The home team started the stronger in the first ten minutes, dominant in possession. The team controlled the middle of the pitch and got numerous shots at goal. As time moved on the visitors gained confidence and got four or five chances in the home team's “D”. Fortunately for Yardley the defence fielded two 6th formers who were classed as adults and they both stopped all attacks in their tracks. This half Jack our keeper had no saves to make ( unlike last week when he was voted man of the match for all his many fine saves)

Going into half time all equal was unfortunate after all the hard work the home team put in. At half time a few players suggested slight adjustments of positions, and we duly shuffled the team shape.

Second half was a much more even competitive game. Each team attacked and tested the opponent's defences. The Yardley Badgers slightly edged the most attacks but the Bournville adult thwarted most attacks. The Yardley Badgers did score a well worked goal but unfortunately one of our 6th former took the shot.(Badgers rules state over 16s cannot score). It was disallowed after the game once the Captains met at the end and confirmed details of the rules.

It was an enjoyable game with both teams producing quality hockey. Yardley and Bournville both fielded two adult players each and they encourage the youngsters to play exciting hockey.

All the home team youngsters should be proud of their performance but they must take the early chances when they come along.
