Match Report | YARDLEY 0 NEWTOWN 6 Yardley hosted Newtown this week in the MRHA West Midlands Div 1 league. Newtown were gifted an early lead with a mistake in the Yardley defence allowing Newtown to take the lead in the first 30 seconds. From then on, Yardley settled and began to try and take the game to Newtown. Much of the remainder of the first half saw Yardley soak up attacks from Newtown and look to press on the counter. Noor saw a shot saved well by the keeper before Jeevan burst through the centre but was unable to beat the keeper 1 on 1. James Livingston and DJ played well to distribute the ball out wide which resulted in a few short corners. One goal was disallowed from a short as Alex's initial shot went into the goal above backboard height. Half time and not much in the game. Yardley spoke about being more clinical near goal and to continue pressuring the Newtown defence. Newtown would prove to be too strong on the counter, holding back before breaking which resulted in 2 quick goals into the second half. Yardley Keeper Neal Makepeace was forced into some brilliant close range saves to keep Newtown out. In spite of Yardley’s dogged efforts to stay in the game, Newtown went on to add three more close range goals to put the game beyond Yardley's reach and seal a comfortable victory.
Yardley will hope for a better result next week against Kings Heath Pickwick in what will be the fourth meeting between the sides this season.
