This week’s hockey report:

YARDLEY    0      PERSHORE    2

Yardley slipped to another defeat in the Warwick Printing MRHA West Midlands Division 1 against third placed Pershore.

Yardley’s young side was soon under pressure against their more experienced opponents, as the visitors attacked right from the off. However, Yardley’s defence stood pretty firm for quite some time with keeper Neal Makepeace again in fine form. Eventually Yardley found their way into the game with some enterprising attacks of their own. There followed a period of fairly even play with Pershore not really making the most of their more dominant attacking play and with Yardley trying to give as much as they were receiving. Eventually, approaching half time, Pershore opened their account with a well taken goal. An attack along the left flank and a good cross into the D was met and diverted by the slightest of touches to turn the ball into the net, giving the keeper no chance. Yardley tried hard to get back on level terms before the break but Pershore held on for the rest of the half.

Pershore started the second half in determined fashion and looked the more likely to score again, but Yardley’s defence had other ideas. Yardley pressed forward whenever they could, but promising attacks led by  skipper, Zach Jarvis and Jeevan Chagger were not able to inspire any direct threat on the Pershore goal.  Midway through the half Pershore made the game safe when they scored their second.  A surging attack led to a shot on goal that was initially well saved but not cleared and a simple follow up was all that was needed.  Soon afterwards, a third goal looked on the cards but was again well saved.

This week Yardley face a trip to play the in-form Newtown.
