Match Report | This week’s hockey report: Yardley 0 Leamington 3 Before the start, both teams lined up for two minutes silence in respect of Armistice Day, before getting down to business in the Warwick Printing MRHA West Midlands Division 1. It was the visitors who settled the quicker and exerted the early pressure. However, Yardley’s defenders did a good job in keeping them at bay for quite some time, although they were indebted to their keeper, Neal Makepeace for some timely clearances. Leamington were unable to make their superior attacks count until almost half-time when a pass from the right wing was not cleared cleanly and seized upon to edge the visitors in front going into the break. The second half started off with Leamington again exerting the early pressure but unable to finish off their chances. Yardley created a few good chances themselves. A surging run forward by skipper Zach Jarvis down the left flank ended with the ball falling to Kyle Francis whose attempt on goal was smothered by the visitors’ defence. Yardley were not making the best use of their possession and it was no surprise when Leamington’s pressure finally resulted in a second goal from another cross into the D that was not cleared. The Yardley keeper was still the busier of the two keepers, keeping the score at a fairly respectable level. Yardley were trying hard to get back into the game but when they finally conceded a third, rather sloppy goal that really settled the final outcome. A late Yardley short corner failed to provide any crumb of comfort as the visitors finally ran out deserved winners. This week Yardley visit Wednesbury. |
