Match Report

An early morning kick off at 12:00 away at Wednesbury forced Yardley to wake up early. With no keeper and Paul as a kicking back instead, Yardley had to play an unusual formation. Yardley started the game a little bit slowly,  but picked up some good play very quickly. Only a few minutes into the game and Yardley’s midfield were stringing passes together totally dominating the field. With continuous domination in midfield, a goal was soon to come.  The first goal came from some extremely amazing passing within the midfield between Kyle, Rahman and Aeysha, when the ball finally came to Aeysha, she executed a brilliant pass which cut through Wednesbury’s defence and arrived at the young 7-year old striker on his debut, Dawud. Dawud took a good first time hit which may have been going in but Sean, as usual, posted it up and claiming the goal for himself and changed the scoreboard to 0-1 Yardley.

With only 15 minutes till the end of the first half, Wednesbury knew that this game was going to be more difficult than they imagined. As a consequence, they decided to put their first team “goalkeeper” in midfield. Their adult in midfield was menacing. However, Noah, Ubaydah and Kamran managed to keep him contained and greatly restricted him from getting close to the ‘D’ or making any passes. With only a few minutes to remaining, frantically searched for an equaliser. A into the D  took a deflection off Ubaydah’s stick which caused the ball to bounce past Kamran and Paul rolling into the goal until one of Wednesbury’s youngsters tapped it in to equalise.

The second half pretty much stayed in the same until Wednesbury decided to make every effort to grab a winner.  Yardley’s only option was to defend and that is exactly what they did. Even when Wednesbury had 2 adults in Yardley’s half, they struggled to get a ball into the ‘D’ and when they did, none of their players received it as they were tightly marked by Yardley’s players who gave them only enough space to breath. Some excellent pressure from the two small strikers Sean and Dawud brought Yardley enough time to reposition and recollect for every attack Wednesbury’s two adults threw at us.

Overall, Yardley still managed to display a remarkable performance against Wednesbury, whether they were playing against adults or not. Yardley remained resilient even until the last minute, because of this it was difficult to elect the man-of-the-match as each and every single Yardley player attacked and defended as a unit and preformed to the best of their ability.
