Match Report | This week’s hockey report: Redditch 11 Yardley 0 After the misfortunes of last week’s experience, Yardley might have hoped for better in this Warwick Printing MRHA Hockey League, West Midlands Division 1. However, it soon proved not to be and Yardley, forced to field a weakened side for their visit to second-placed Redditch, knew they were in for a tough afternoon. Yardley’s young side started off well enough, holding their positions. However, keeper Neal Makepeace was called into making early saves from the lively home side. Although Yardley’s defence coped well enough early on it was not long before Redditch scored their first goal from a forward running through and slotting home unchallenged. Yardley did create a few good chances themselves but were unable to make any of them count. Redditch continued to press forward and forced a number of short corners which were converted to give a comfortable 4-0 lead at half time. The home side continued to dominate the second half and with the visitors wilting under the onslaught it was mainly one way traffic and they were able to score seemingly at will. With another tough away game next week against another of the promotion candidates, Old Wulfrunians, Yardley will hope that at least they will be back to somewhere near full strength to give a better account of themselves.
