Match Report |
Yardley have decided to approach the youth side similar to the other teams in the league and have an adult on the field of play. This will help guide the team, whilst in the middle of the action. John Ballard has kindly agreed to take on this role. We again started with a solid back four of Muhammed, John, Owen and Noah. The back line altered slightly with Owen taking a higher line to link the defence with midfield. Both teams were getting chances in the “D” but Solihull tested our keeper Jack the most. Up front Zach and Barakah worked hard trying to find space and when they got the ball looked very comfortable. The opposition’s pressure in the middle of the first half made our defence work hard and Jack had to make several fine saves. Just as we were getting on top of the pressure, a shot at the top of the “D” was saved by Jack but as the keeper's kit is brand new and unfamiliar, the ball crept under his kicker, unfortunately, giving Solihull the lead into half time.
The adult players from both teams guided their teams well, encouraging, developing and promoting good hockey. John especially was a very calming influence at the back which flowed throughout the team. Jack again won the Man of the Match accolade (2nd time this season) due to some timely saves.
Rahman, Ethan, Aeysha, Edan, and Grace produced excellent individual performances in the middle of the park but the team link-up play and solid passing needs developing. As they get more game time this well surely come together. A well drilled passing team will shine through. Second half the Badgers continually rotated positions and tried to get the ball out wide as often as possible. Owen out wide in the second half put some excellent crosses into the “D” and only needed a slight deflection from the strikers to get a goal. Alas no touches. It was a close game and a fair result, and both teams were evenly matched throughout.
