Match Report

A fairly disastrous week in terms of availability and fitness saw the 10 men, boys and girls of Yardley travel to Evesham. A week where illness, Karate, deaths and injury depleted Yardley so far that we could only raise 10 players. Our thoughts are with the Chaggers and Robs for their losses.
On to the game, Nigel bravely (maybe stupidly) volunteered to go in goal since the retirement of our Badgers keeper, Callum. Once we had worked out how to get the shorts past his knees we had a little time to warm him up and familiarise himself with the kit. We will probably have to rely on Nigel again due to the fixtures of all our teams. The pitch was barely playable with a fairly large section on the attacking left wing frozen but both teams wanted to play. Evesham had 14 players but opted not to offer us one so we played with 10. As well as Nigel, I took to the field to make up the numbers and we press ganged Jacob into playing for us. Solid at the back we were with Nigel only called into action twice. The players all worked extremely hard to get a result and were rewarded for the endeavours when Noah Jarvis picked up the ball from close range netting for a decisive goal. Evesham had plenty of pressure as Yardley legs tired but with Jordan, Usamah, Ubaydah, Kathryn and Ziaur all running themselves into the ground it was a well deserved victory. Jordan had his best game for Yardley Badgers and was instrumental in nearly everything we did well. All credit to the team for gaining reward for persistence and no little skill.
Happy New Year all bring on 2015!
