Match Report |
Off the back of last week’s loss to Olton, Yardley Badgers were looking for a result and performance to rectify the damage. The Badgers responded brilliantly beating the hosts 3-0.
Yardley were dominant in the 1st half scoring all 3 goals in this period. The passing and interchanging of positions was excellent leading to numerous efforts on goal and plenty of short corners. Sean Brookes scored 2 goals with a proper poachers attitude and Owen Smith the other from a thunderous short corner shot.
Yardley were quicker out of the blocks than the opponents of the day and clearly had more match practice and experience. that said the two teams were similar ages. Usamah, Jordan and Ishaq had a great 1st half imposing themselves on the midfield. They faded for a 15 minute period in the 2nd half when positionally we were not as good as the in the 1st period and this allowed Blossomfield back into the game. Once we regained our composure the final 20 minutes was all one way traffic again as Yardley attacked but couldn’t add to the goal tally.
Kathryn and Aeysha playing as inside forwards were a constant threat and made many purposeful runs at the opposition leaving space for others to exploit. Ziaur and Sean were industrious up front with Ziaur braking down play high up the field and never allowing the defenders the time on the ball they required. At the back Owen, Ubaydah and Muhammed did all they needed to do.
The only blot on the day was losing Callum at half time because of a knee injury sustained away from hockey, we’ll have to hope he’s fit for next week. He still had time to make a double save in the first period and during practice saved an Owen thunderbolt with the helmet.
A game played in the right spirit and with some skill for the audience to enjoy. Thanks must go to Blossomfield for being such good hosts and we look forward to the return game.
