Match Report | Yardley could be forgiven for not looking forward to the start of the second half of the Warwick Printing Hockey League West Midlands Division 1 as they had been well beaten in the first game against Leamington back in October. However, as it turned out, Yardley gave a very good account of themselves during a very even first half. Both teams created chances during this period but Yardley missed their best two efforts whilst the home side managed to score a rather scrappy goal from close in. During the second half things became a little more predictable. Leamington added to their slender first half lead with a well taken goal from open play. A third was added from a short corner and a fourth from a shot initially going wide but deflected in at the back post. Yardley’s first half energy ran out of steam and they found themselves defending deeper and deeper. Although they did manage to create a few more chances they were unable to convert them. In the end it was a comfortable win for the home side but the visitors will have been grateful to have kept the score to a more respectable level and will have taken some heart from their early efforts.
