Match Report | After a long trek to Wales for this Warwick Printing Hockey League West Midlands Division one game, Yardley soon found themselves up against it as their hosts pressed home their promotion ambitions right from the start. Playing on a newly laid pitch the Yardley players found it quite bumpy and bouncy and difficult to get into the game. Newtown raced into the lead within the first five minutes and then pushed on to make the game safe by establishing a 3-0 lead before half time. The visitors eventually found their way into the game, pressing forward through Alex Makepeace and Junaid Ali and creating some good half chances. From a short corner, Gavin Hetherington’s attempt on goal could only be parried by the keeper, the ball falling at the near post for Alex Makepeace to sweep into the goal. The second half proved to be more of the same with Newtown pressing relentlessly forward and Yardley defending desperately. In the end Yardley were soundly beaten. They have just one more chance to grab something from this half of the season this week when they entertain Bloxwich. |
