Match Report

Almost back to full strength after a spate of injuries, Yardley might have hoped to get a little more out of this game in the Warwick Printing Hockey League, West Midlands Division 1.

The game started with both teams fairly evenly matched during  the opening exchanges with both teams looking to attack whenever possible. Yardley created a number of half chances without being able to convert any of them. Ed Reid had a good attempt well saved by the Evesham keeper. Evesham finally struck the first blow though the conversion of a short corner with a well taken shot on goal. This spurred the visitors to enjoy a period of dominance which lasted until the break.

Yardley came out for the second half with good intentions and forced a number of short corners early on but were unable to make any of them count. Both teams were still fairly evenly matched but it was the visitors who looked most likely to score again. And so it proved to be. Midway through the half another well worked short corner routine enabled Evesham to double their lead.

Evesham thought that they had scored again shortly afterwards but the attempt was disallowed by the umpire. Towards the end of the game Yardley began to create one or two good chances. Good work by Noor Zaman led to fellow striker Robin Stanley firing just wide. In the end, Evesham deserved the three points leaving Yardley feeling frustrated yet again.

This week Yardley face a daunting trip to Shropshire to take on current league leaders, Oswes
