Match Report | Before the start of this game both teams were at the wrong end of the table both looking for their first league win of the season. In the end it was the home team that shaded the honours in this Warwick Printing Hockey League West Midlands Division 1 encounter. In spite of being forced into some positional changes, through injury, before the game, Yardley started off well creating several chances with attacks down both wings Strikers Noor Zaman and Robin Stanley both went close with a couple of these chances. Yardley’s pressure told in the end when Alex Makepeace and Ed Reid combined well down the left which led to skipper Zach Jarvis scoring the first goal. Droitwich slowly came back into the game and equalised when a shot on goal rebounded off the keeper’s pads into the path of an oncoming forward who made no mistake. Then in first half stoppage time Yardley edged into the lead again from a short corner. The short corner was taken and Rob McGuigan squared the ball to Zakariyya Asif who pushed the ball home from close range. Yardley started the second half brightly but wasted good chances. Droitwich levelled the scores again when a shot on goal was deflected off a defender’s stick into the goal. Both teams then pushed forward looking for a match winner and with time running out, a Droitwich right wing attack led to the ball being passed into the D and slotted home to claim the three points. Yardley had enough chances to have got more out of the game but will be fairly satisfied with their improved team effort. However, they will need to be at their very best this week as they entertain league leaders, Old Wulfrunians. |
