Match Report | Yardley 1sts gained a confidence boosting win over Blossomfield 2nds in their second warm-up game on Saturday. New skipper, Zach Jarvis organised his team with well, including a substitute on the side with a view to regular swaps in midfield to enable players to take a breather and keep fresh legs coming on a regular intervals. Right from the start the team showed its intentions, although Neal was called upon to make an early clearance. Yardley soon began a create a flurry of chances with their pacy running and passing. In spite of early pressure the chances were not converted. They even made a mess of their first short corner. Blossomfield were trying hard to stay in the game but were largely restricted to the occasional breakaway chance. Just before half time Yardley forced a series of short corners and from one of these good work by Rob McGuigan enabled Zach Jarvis to follow up a shot on goal to edge Yardley in front. Blossomfield tried hard to get back level before the break but from another Yardley attack Noor Zaman completely wrong-footed the keeper to calmly put his shot away. Another goal before half time this time from the lively Alex Makepeace, gave the home side a healthy lead at the break. The second half began with Yardley continuing in the same positive manner. Blossomfield were finding it very hard to stay in the game. Robin Stanley put the game well out of the visitors’ reach when he smashed home a lovely through ball from Rob McGuigan. More good work by Rob at another short corner enabled Zach to prod home Yardley’s fifth. Noor added a sixth after yet another speedy attack. Zakariyya Asif was delighted to add a seventh, connecting with a cross from Robin Stanley. Yardley were dominant throughout. Every player in the team, including the roll-on subs, played their part in this thoroughly deserved win. Zach will be hoping this confidence can be carried forward into the final warm-up game and then the league itself. |
